Is it possible to change material without changing the labels applied onto it?

So I like to change the material from plastic to metal, but I don’t like to apply all the labels again.
Is there a way to exchange materials but leave the labels unchanged?

Just select the main material node in the material graph and change it’s ‘Material Type’ to ‘metal’ on the right top side of the material graph window.

if you want to replace the material while keeping the decals via the material library, just try to pull the new material onto the object while pressing the CTRL-Key. If you want to keep the textures press the ALT-Key while pulling the new material onto the object.
